No. 860 Map magic wand
12 1/4 inch lathe turned purpleheart magic wand with inked suede and brass tack.
This wand is one of a collection that I did in October for the online prompt series, Inktober. The group inktober presents artists with a list of 31 halloween themed prompt words, and the artists are to do an individual drawing for each word on each day. I decided to take it one step further and create a unique wand for each days word. I called it Wandtober. The task was quite a gauntlet, harder than I thought it would be. But I am very happy with the results.
The wand I present you with here is Wandtober #5 Map. I wanted to make a scytale cypher that wraps around the handle of a wand. So I chose a strip of suede, got the fit right, then inked a rudimentary map onto the suede.
